1. Xcaret, the best overall
Xcaret is a 200 acre eco archaeological park that combines underground rivers, a natural beach lagoon, a butterfly pavilion and the famous Xcaret Mexico Espectacular show at night. It is the park that most visitors end up recommending because a single ticket covers an entire day from 8:30 AM to 10:30 PM.
With the all inclusive option you also get lunch and unlimited drinks, which pushes the effective cost well below what it looks like on paper. The Xcaret full day pass is the most booked attraction from Cancun.
Check Xcaret Availability2. Xel-Ha, best for families
Xel-Ha is built around a giant natural lagoon where fresh water cenotes meet the Caribbean. The water is calm, shallow near the edges and perfect for snorkeling even with small kids. It includes all food and drinks, snorkel gear and tubes for the lazy river.
For families traveling with children under 8, Xel-Ha is the safest pick. The pace is slower than Xcaret and lifeguards are stationed every few meters.
3. Xplor, best for adventure
Xplor is the adrenaline park of the group. Zip lines over the jungle, amphibious vehicles through muddy trails, swimming in stalactite caves and rafts you propel through underground rivers. Minimum age is 5 for most activities.
4. Ventura Park, the Cancun hotel zone option
If you do not want to travel 80 minutes to Riviera Maya, Ventura Park is the only full size water and theme park inside Cancun. Go kart tracks, dolphin swims, water slides and a ropes course in one complex. The basic water park ticket starts at $55 and a combo with dolphins or go karts pushes it to around $120.
5. Wet'n Wild Cancun
The classic slide focused water park of the chain. Kamikaze drops, a wave pool, twin tube rides and a lazy river. Less variety than the Xcaret group parks, but significantly cheaper and fine for a half day.
What to look for before you book
Before picking any water park near Cancun, check these three things:
- Included food and drinks. Xcaret, Xel-Ha and Xplor include full meals. Ventura and Wet'n Wild do not, so budget an extra $25 to $40 per person.
- Transport from your hotel. Xcaret and Xel-Ha offer shuttle add ons for $25 to $35. Going independently by ADO bus costs $8 to $15 but takes longer.
- Combo tickets. If you plan to visit two parks, combo tickets save 20 to 30 percent vs buying separately. See the Xcaret + Xel-Ha combo guide.
When to visit
High season runs December through April. During these months, book at least 5 days in advance. Weekday visits are significantly less crowded than Saturdays and Sundays, when local families from Cancun and Playa del Carmen fill the parks. Arrive at opening time (8:30 or 9 AM) to hit the popular attractions before the queues form.
